Introducing Scott Gottwald & Design Labs
We haven't met a woodworker in all the years we've been in business who has the unique training and skills that Scott Gottwald does. Scott's interest in woodworking was nurtured by his father, a high-end home builder in Colorado Springs, who had a passion for architecture and design.
Scott was making his first pieces in 1995, and then a few years later he enrolled at the prestigious Chippendale International School of Furniture in Scotland, to really hone his craft. He graduated in 1999, which means that Scott is celebrating his 20th anniversary as a furniture maker, so congratulations to Scott for this significant accomplishment!
We looked at the curriculum for the professional course at the Chippendale school, which--as you might expect--is very rigorous. But Scott enjoyed it all the more for the friendly community of people he was a part of and the many field trips he made to meet furniture makers and see production centers, which helped put his training in perspective.
When asked what his favorite projects are, he told us that he loves designing and building tables. And, what advice he'd give to someone who wants to be a furniture maker? "If you want to be a furniture maker you need to marry well, because your partner will be supporting you."
So, add a great sense of humor to Scott's humility and considerable woodworking talent and we think we know why Scott's wife loves him so much!
